SAA Angel Tree Project

Our SAA has a tradition of doing an Angel Tree project for one of our service projects for the Kirksville community. This year Jenny Crellin was in charge and just did a fantastic job!!! It was an amazing experience to be a part of. Most of you are familiar with the one's that most large cities have at their local malls, ours is similar! We were able to provide about 160 children, with over 1000 gifts, from very generous members of the community, local business, and other special people! What a blessing it was to be a part of! Jenny went through the local school counselors to find the children that needed it the most, their needs and wants were turned in and we placed it all on a card. These cards were hung on Christmas trees at Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee, and at ATSU. People would "adopt" a card and shop for presents and turn the gifts into the Customer Service area at Wal-Mart, then Jenny would pick them up and we had wrapping parties to wrap all the gifts and label them. We used numbers (for the family) and letters (for each child), Thursday and Friday we had a few angels that never got adopted so, Angel, Chris and I got the special privilege to go shopping for these angels! It was a really neat experience! Then after all the gifts were wrapped, labeled, and sorted we bagged them. Then Saturday morning the parents came and picked up the gifts. They were so grateful and it just touched my heart! Thank you Jenny for all your hard work and countless, countless, hours of service you put forward, as well as all the other 1st VP's that have done this in the past and all the wonderful SAA members who came and helped out!!!
