Chris's 1st Rotation in AZ

Pediatrics- with Dr. Broome, M.D. and Dr. Shulzski, M.D.

Chris just finished his 1st week of rotations and is doing pediatrics with Dr. Broome. He has 2 offices one in Maryvale 51st street which takes about 45 minutes from out house depending on traffic and 1 in Goodyear which takes about an hour or so depending on traffic as well. Just a cool little fact the Maryvale office was the 1st Peds office West of the I-10 built back in 1950's and the doctor who started the practice is 80 years old and is still practicing! He still sees patiants every 15 minutes, isn't that cool! Dr. Broome is part of the practice with 6 other pediatriticians and they all trade off between both offices, they only work half days either 8-1 or 1-6 and only 3-4 days a week! Dr. Broome is going out of town for the next 3 weeks so Chris will be rotatiing with Dr. Shulsky. Dr. Broome is really friendly they are super busy and see patients the whole time they are there, they round at the hospitals and get to visit all the brand new babies during the lunch hour then they stop in the Physicians lounge for a free lunch! Dr. Broome lets you walk through the patients the 1st day with him then after that he goes in with you and you run the show! He will help or correct if needed, by the 3rd day, you see patients then report. On Chris's first day he took out 2 set of stitches, cauterized 2 umbilical cords and did lots of well child checks. Each night Chris has had 2-3 hours of studying for the next day. Dr. Broome sent him home with sometimes 3-4 things, sometime 6-7 things to look up and research. It would be helpful if your student knew ahead of time all the shot record stuff and milestones according to ages, just a heads up! Chris watched one circumcision and was told he will be preforming the next! So they really let you jump in and do things.
Then Chris got to rotate with Dr. Shulski, who he really enjoyed! Dr. Shulzski would sit down at the end of the day and talk about the patients they saw and answer any questions Chris might have. Chris learned a lot and really enjoyed his time with him.
