Crazy story we were diligently searching for a home to live in and Chris and I were so bummed that there was no chance we would get military housing and had exausted all our possibilities with the military. I went to every branch Army- at least a 12-18 month wait, but slim possibility October (after the 5th encounter trying so hard to get housing!), Air Force practically laughed at me and said no chance but maybe 12-18 months, Navy 12-18 months possibly sooner, and Marines don't let Army live in their housing. So now where to live on this island??? We didn't care for Kilua where practically all the doctors live that work at Tripler, so now where??? Dr. Olsen lives in Mililani and suggested we go look there, we fell in love with the town and decided that was where we wanted to live! So we spent hours and hours looking for houses online, calling, driving through neighborhoods, etc... found the perfect house (by me being nosy!) This poor lady was moving out of her house so I knocked on the door and asked if it was rented yet, just happened not to be so I seized the opportunity, talked with the owner and they sent me an application this was Monday, Tuesday got the application and thought I will wait till Chris comes home and then I will fill it out and mail the deposit to the lady in the morning. At 3pm I get a phone call its Fort Shafter (Army) housing office they have a house for us meet her 8 am in the morning to accept!!!! CRAZY!!! I was so thankful and what awesome timing!!!
It was such a huge blessing and I am so thankful to live here!
Chris couldn't get off to see the house so I went with the kids and the only down side at the time was no yard, but we have since been just fine without a yard! We have 3 lanai's (balcony's) all with ocean views and we have a fantastic neighborhood with tons and tons of kids to play with and great neighbors!!! We have a beautiful pool to swim in just down the hill and a nice playground 2 doors down! We just couldn't be happier! Chris is 10 minutes from work and never has to fight with traffic. Also we didn't have to have a $3000 down payment and we have heavenly central air with all utilities included in our BAH (base allowance housing)!!! Such wonderful blessings!
It is 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths and brand spankin new!!! The only appliances we had to purchase were washer and dryer and they take care of everything!!!
I was sad to leave the hotel life, they cooked a delicious breakfast every morning, cleaned and made beds, and I got to lounge at the pool, sweet life! Now onto real life again.
We moved in June 30th our stuff still hadn't arrived so we could have had loaner furniture, but I didn't want to mess with that so we just bought air matresses, a folding table and chairs till our stuff arrived! On July 8th (9 days later) our stuff came and the moving company made a mess of unpacking! Chris was working so it was just me and the kids with 4 unpackers and I tried to keep a handle on it, but no! The boxes were put in different rooms and they litterally opened them and dumped them all over the floor on top of all kinds of other things! Things were broken and missing, but all in all it is ok! I was so frustrated about the mess of everything though! Luckily my wonderful Mom came to the rescue and flew in the following weekend to help and what a blessing that was!!!! We had so much fun and my home is all put back together after a lot of work, but we did play in between!!!
I will post pictures soon!
